CAPTO Testimonial from the Rope Access Channel
CMC is excited to share the following CAPTO field review by Alex Buiter at the Rope Access Channel. Alex used CAPTO on dirty and greasy ropes in a range of conditions including long cold weather days on tough rope access jobs. Here’s what he had to say:
“I’ve been using the CAPTO on various jobs lately, and I’ve got to say, it’s impressively practical. The ease of use stands out immediately – it’s super easy to attach to the rope, even with bulky gloves and gear. The intuitive design means I spend less time fiddling and more time working.
Durability is another big win. It’s solidly built, ready to handle the rough handling and dirt of daily use. And the pulley? Smooth and efficient, and performs well. Even on those greasy ropes the cam works great.
I mostly use CAPTO for a quick 3:1 tensioning system or in a RADS setup, and it’s been fantastic in both applications. Even though the CAPTO manual limits its use as a progress capture pulley, I have been using it this way for 25/50kg loads. Also because I want to test wear and tear. So far, none detected. The little soft shackle for remote resets is also a great touch – really helpful in a pinch.
Of course, nothing’s perfect. The CAPTO is a bit on the heavier and larger side, which is noticeable on longer jobs with it swinging from the harness. But considering its performance and reliability, that’s a trade-off I’m okay with.
Overall, I’d say the CAPTO is a solid choice for anyone in rope access work. It is a dependable tool that gets the job done, and then some.
Oh and one more thing…. It has a nice click sound when it locks in place. Also very important!”
