Andy is a lifelong caver that lives near Heber City, Utah. Andy has been expedition caving for many years, having first started exploring caves near his childhood home near Nashville, Tennessee. Since then his explorations have allowed him to visit caves in 28 U.S. states and eight different countries. Andy has been active in the exploration of major U.S. systems such as Jewel Cave, Lechuguilla Cave, and caving projects in Grand Canyon. He has participated in five expeditions to Mexico and is experienced in camping underground, having spent 157 nights underground in Lechuguilla Cave over 23 expeditions.
Andy became involved with cave rescue in 2006 and has been an instructor for the National Cave Rescue Commission (NCRC) since 2011, helping to develop their Small Party Assisted Rescue (SPAR) curriculum. Since 2016, Andy has served as the Rocky Mountain Regional Coordinator for NCRC, helping to sponsor trainings and build mutual aid relationships across the eight-state region.
Andy has an interest in small-party minimal gear techniques and in ways that American and European techniques can be used together in an integrated philosophy.
